Game Store Review: Play the Game, Read the Story in Syracuse, NY

As disappointing as the store in Utica was, the store in Syracuse was rewarding. It is called Play the Game Read the Story. There was a sign on the street guiding people in. It was again off the street, but this time by the Spaghetti Warehouse, a popular restaurant. There was a professional sign outside the door, and inside a very large space with at least three employees who acted in a professional manner, taking stock of the inventory, and asking if they could help when needed. There was a public bathroom, a large collection of games, board games, and dice, and a number of playing tables with active players on one side. I think there must have been about 10 or more tables. There were no used games unfortunately, but I was pleasantly surprised that they had a lot of games that I hadn’t heard of, and a lot that I had. We ended up just buying some dice, but in the meantime we walked the aisles, talked about possible games to buy, and were a bit dismayed at the price of miniatures these days, except for those big bags of plastic zombies. Those were reasonable! I bought some huge dice that even I can see with my aging eyes. If we lived in the area, we’d definitely be visiting this store again, and probably setting up our game in the back.
